What is this site?
The purpose of this site it to help you on your journey to automate some trades.
Who are you?
Please head over to the Contact page and send me a hello. Tell me about yourself, and why you’re interested in the world of automated trading. I’ll do my best to respond to every comment and email. Even if you don’t want to introduce yourself, I’m glad you’re here and reading.
Who am I?
I’m Jeff James, and I’m basically a hobbiest in this field. I love it, I’m fascinated by it, and I like to try different things to see how they work. I’ve learned some hard lessons in my trading experience, but have had some nice wins too. I’ll share those older stories in different articles and posts as it makes sense. But, I’ll share the current wins and losses live for anything new that I’m working on.
I have dabbled in programming for many years, this will reveal my age, but in high school, I had some Basic and Pascal. After that, in tech school, I took programming classes for Assembly, AS/400, Cobol, and Qbasic… Then I got into web programming which was so exciting to have hosted server-based apps in PHP/MySQL… that got me into some Laravel programming. And, now, I’ve been working more with Python. I can’t believe how easy it is to get into such complicated programming with Python. I love it. There’s so many prebuilt API’s that already work with it, it makes it easy to get started very quickly.
Note: If some of these languages or terms sound confusing, please don’t worry, this is just my history, most of which doesn’t really apply. I just want you know to know I’ve been programming for many years, and that Python will be the easiest way into this. We’ll talk more about it in other posts, but when I show an algorithm, you’ll be able to make a copy of it, update a couple items, and then try it live with your own brokerage account. It can be that easy, but I’ll also want you to understand what it is the code is doing too, not just copy and hope it works.
How I’ll be writing these articles:
As I write, I’ll often say ”we” or ”our” in the different articles or posts. In the end, it’s just me writing these articles, but I’m writing them in a way where I’m assuming you are part of the experience. You are the person that makes this site important. I hope to hear from you, whether it’s in a comment on a post, the contact form, or even just an email to say hello.
I do want to hear feedback or ideas from you. What are you looking for from your own journey? What is your goal? If you sign up for my newsletter, you’ll be asked those questions and I hope you send me your answers. As the content is built out on the site, you’ll be key to what is written, what algorithms are tried, and you’ll get to see the results of each test thing I’m trying.
Site Goals:
The goals of this site are as follows:
- Learn the automated trading world better, to enhance my skills
- To share my journey of automated trading with you
- To get to know the community better
- Bonus Goal: Earn enough from trading to pay for a Tesla Model X with Self Drive (my dream vehicle), I’m not a car guy, and in the end the Tesla Model X is like a gadget that I can drive.
I’m hoping to track the monthly income on this site and I’ll have a goal of around $1700 per month (estimated payment plus insurance) to see if I can make that happen. I know it sounds ridiculous, but if there’s a way for me to get one, this is how I’ll be doing it.
Please remember (and you’ll need to get used to seeing this):
NOTE: This is not financial advice. Please do not risk or invest any money that you’re not afraid to lose.
